DESCRIPTION : The Nieuport 11, or The Baby as it was affectionately known, was the first ever aircraft designed to be a fighter. Franceso Baracca remains the biggest Italian military aviation hero of all time, with 35 enemy kills to his name. Baracca was as renowned as much for his gentle and sympathetic manner as he was for his flying capabilities. After a battle over the Valle Del Chiarzo in 1916, Baracca had the prancing horse painted on the fuselage of his Nieuport 11 as a tribute to his previous regiment, the Piedmont Real. This stunningly detailed replica is of the plane that Baracca flew in the battle of Udine in 1916. The model measures 8 inches in width by 8 inches in length, and features a moving propeller, removable pilot figure, and comes on a presentation base. |
