DESCRIPTION : Donington Park 1993. It conjures up one memory and one memory only, that fantastic opening lap driven by Ayrton Senna. And we at Grand Prix Legends have produced a wonderful limited edition photographic print to commemorate that achievement, signed by the two men that shared the podium with Senna that day, Alain Prost and Damon Hill. Before the race started there was no clue that something really special was about to happen. In dry qualifying Senna had struggled against the superior Williams-Renaults of Prost and Hill and was also pipped by Michael Schumachers Benetton, to line up fourth on the grid. Then, on race day, the heavens opened. Senna didnt get a good start and dropped a place while Karl Wendlinger in the Sauber shot up to third behind Prost and Hill. Then Senna wrote his place in history. He outdragged Schumacher coming out of Redgate, the first corner, and then on the plunge down the Craner Curves he drove around the outside of Wendlinger to seize third place before the Old Hairpin it is at this point that the photo has been taken. Two down, two to go. As soon as Senna was on Hills tail he bolted down the inside of the Brit at McLeans, then just his great rival Alain Prost lay ahead of him. But not for long. Down Starkeys Straight and through the Esses Senna stalked the Williams, before diving down the inside at the Melbourne Hairpin. He had gone from fifth to first in less than a lap!
